Interprofessional Organizational and Systems Leadership
Order Description
Assignment: Application: Systems Theory
As noted in" rel="nofollow">in the Learnin" rel="nofollow">ing Resources, systems theory provides a meanin" rel="nofollow">ingful and beneficial means of examin" rel="nofollow">inin" rel="nofollow">ing challenges in" rel="nofollow">in health care organizations. To do this
effectively, however, it is essential to assess all system components, as some may be relatively healthy while others are problematic.
For this Assignment, you apply systems theory to the examin" rel="nofollow">ination of a problem in" rel="nofollow">in a department or a unit within" rel="nofollow">in a health care organization. (Note: You may use the same
problem you identified for the Discussion as long as it meets the criteria for this assignment.)
To prepare:
Review the Meyer article, “Nursin" rel="nofollow">ing Services Delivery Theory: An Open System Approach,” in" rel="nofollow">in this week’s Learnin" rel="nofollow">ing Resources. Focus especially on the in" rel="nofollow">information presented
in" rel="nofollow">in Table 1 (p. 2831) and Figure 2 (p. 2833).
Reflect on your organization or one with which you are familiar. Within" rel="nofollow">in a particular department or unit in" rel="nofollow">in this organization, identify a problem the staff is
encounterin" rel="nofollow">ing.
Usin" rel="nofollow">ing Table 1 in" rel="nofollow">in the Meyer article as a guide, analyze the department or unit, identifyin" rel="nofollow">ing in" rel="nofollow">inputs, throughput, output, cycles of events, and negative feedback.
Consider whether the problem you have selected relates to in" rel="nofollow">input, throughput, output, cycles of events, and/or negative feedback.
Thin" rel="nofollow">ink about how you could address the problem: Consider what a desired outcome would be, then formulate related goals and objectives, and translate those goals in" rel="nofollow">into
policies and procedures.
Research professional standards that are pertin" rel="nofollow">inent to your identified problem.
Reflect on the organization’s mission statement and values. In addition, consider how addressin" rel="nofollow">ing this problem would uphold the mission and values, while improvin" rel="nofollow">ing the
organizational culture and climate. (Dependin" rel="nofollow">ing on the organization you have selected, you may have explored these in" rel="nofollow">in the Week 1 Discussion.)
To complete:
By Day 7
Write a 3- to 5-page paper (page count does not in" rel="nofollow">include title and reference page) that addresses the followin" rel="nofollow">ing:
Describe a department or unit within" rel="nofollow">in a health care organization usin" rel="nofollow">ing systems theory termin" rel="nofollow">inology. Include a description of in" rel="nofollow">inputs, throughput, output, cycles of
events, and negative feedback.
Describe the problem you identified within" rel="nofollow">in the department or unit usin" rel="nofollow">ing an open- systems approach, and state where the problem exists usin" rel="nofollow">ing the systems theory model
(in" rel="nofollow">input, throughput, output, cycles of events, or negative feedback).
Based on this in" rel="nofollow">information, explain" rel="nofollow">in how you would address the problem as follows:
Formulate a desired outcome.
Identify goals and objectives that would facilitate that outcome.
Translate those goals and objectives in" rel="nofollow">into policies and procedures for the department or unit.
Describe relevant professional standards.
Explain" rel="nofollow">in how your proposed resolution to the problem would uphold the organization’s mission and values and improve the culture and climate.
The Assignment, Systems Theory, is due by Day 7 of Week 2.
Remin" rel="nofollow">inder: The School of Nursin" rel="nofollow">ing requires that all papers submitted in" rel="nofollow">include a title page, in" rel="nofollow">introduction, summary, and references. The Sample Paper provided at the Walden
Writin" rel="nofollow">ing Center provides an example of those required elements. All papers submitted must use this formattin" rel="nofollow">ing.
