Attend one of the University Rethinking Race events (February 27th – March 9th) or watch any film of your choice and then write a reflection on this experience. The Rethinking Race series is a forum in which race and race-related issues can be discussed, examined, and hopefully better understood. Through films, performances, Face 2-Face Conversations, and keynote speakers, Rethinking Race hopes to engage the public with important topics such as diversity in the workplace and awareness of issues and culture.
After attending the event, write a reflection on this experience. This means you should think deeply about what you saw and heard, and what your feelings and thoughts are about this experience. On this course’s Assignments section of Brightspace, submit your reflection, which should include your answers to the following in several paragraphs:
a. What event did you attend? What was the experience like for you?
b. Identify one important concept, research finding, theory, or idea that you learned while completing this activity. Why do you believe that this concept, research finding, theory, or idea is important?
c. Apply what you have learned from this activity to some aspect of your life.
d. What question(s) has the activity raised for you? In other words, what are you still wondering about? (Note, you need to include one question that you are still wondering about. The answer “nothing” or something similar is not acceptable.)

I attended the University Rethinking Race event, "We Live Here: An Honest Conversation with Native Americans and Non-Native Alaskans". The experience was eye-opening. I had the privilege of hearing a panel of Native American people who spoke about their experiences living in Alaska, as well as being members of the indigenous community. They discussed topics such as land rights, cultural appropriation, racism, and tokenization. It was an insightful conversation that highlighted the importance of recognizing native perspectives and understanding how these issues intersect with other identities (such as race).
