IRB assignment Order Description   Assignment 5: IRB Application (8 pages MAXIMUM) (49 points) Abstract ? Using the findings from your literature review, present briefly what has prior research identified about the social problem and prevalence. Also briefly summarize the study being proposed. Objectives of the Study ? What are the aims of the study? ? What is the Research question that is going to be answered by conducting the research? (Please make sure that your research question can be answered by the methodology that you are planning.) Students are welcome to have more than 1 research question. Methods ? Describe the method you would use and why this would be the best design for your study (i.e., deductive/inductive; qualitative/quantitative/mixed methods) ? Describe the type of design you would use and why this would be the best design for your study (i.e., pre-experimental, quasi-experimental, experimental) ? Discuss why this design best addresses the research question. ? Describe the sampling technique you would use and why this would be the best technique for your study (i.e., probability/non-probability; method) Procedure ? Describe the sampling technique planned (i.e., how you would actually go about gathering respondents) ? Describe what respondents would be expected to do during the study. Provide detailed explanations – remember what you learned about ethics! Measurement ? Describe the measurement tools that will be used in the study. o If quantitative: provide information on the scale, the number of items, type of items, level of measurement, reliability & validity, and scoring procedures o If qualitative: discuss the development of the evaluation criteria, any interview questions that may be asked, the setting in which the observations will be made, and any other pertinent information related to measurement. ? Include copies of the scales being used, the interview protocol, and/or observation criteria/recording document tools as appropriate to your project (not included in page limit) Risk/Benefits Analysis ? Discuss the benefits of this research. ? Discuss any risks for participants. (If risks, how are you going to reduce those identified risks for respondents.) ? Discuss Anonymity and Confidentiality (Remember there is a difference between confidentiality and anonymity. Don’t just say “anonymity and confidentiality will be offered to participants.” ? Discuss approaches for Consent/Disclosure for participants in the research
