Issue of juvenile delinquency.
Imagine you are hired by a state government to address the issue of juvenile delinquency. Your budget is limited, so you can only implement two programs. The governor would like your recommendations to address:
1. Early delinquency prevention.
2. Adolescent delinquency prevention and intervention.
Your first priority is effectiveness, i.e. your suggestions should work to address the problem of juvenile delinquency. Your second priority is cost: to keep the governor happy, your suggestions should also be efficient, i.e. provide maximum benefit for minimal cost.
Thankfully, you have the University of to help! Specifically, the Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS). One of the programs IBS works on is “Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.”, a database of juvenile programs. Blueprints https://www.blueprintsprograms.org/about provides a short description of many programs, along with cost and effectiveness data.
For each of your two suggestions, you should:
1. Describe the program in detail. Exactly what services will be provided, when, how, and to whom? What are the desired outcomes? In order to find this information, you may need to reference the webpage of the program you have selected. Your descriptions should include explicit references to the textbook and Blueprints (and/or the website of the program you choose).
2. Provide some evidence that programs like the one you suggest are effective and efficient (with explicit references to the textbook and evaluation research). If you go to a program’s “Fact Sheet” on Blueprints, at the very bottom of the page is a “References” section. Each of these articles evaluates the effectiveness of the program. You should select one of the these articles and incorporate its findings into your answer.
