This paper will be an opportunity for you to think deeply and carefully about the work of a major Sociological thinker that we have covered, and apply their ideas to a contemporary problem. Here you should use, Mead, Durkheim, Weber, Marx or Foucault and attempt to use their theories to make sense of a contemporary problem. Which elements of their theories work and which do not? This paper should show a mastery of clear and persuasive communication, critical and innovative thinking, the ability to juggle diverse and sometimes conflicting ideas and information literacy.
For this paper, you will choose a topic that you are personally interested in, one that pertains to issues of social justice and is of contemporary concern. TOPIC : IMMIGRATION
Once you have chosen your topic, you will then apply one of the theorists that we have covered in class to do an analysis of your issue. So you will, for instance; do a Foucauldian analysis of the IMMIGRATION debate; a Durkheimian analysis of the Black Lives Matter Movement; or a Marxist analysis of labor relations under globalization. It is imperative that you use the theories and not simply refer to them.
