Journal and quote book (My teeth)
There should be two separate parts.
first, I would like for you to write 250-500 words usin" rel="nofollow">ing the followin" rel="nofollow">ing Questions as prompts. This will be over the first half of Story of My Teeth (not the whole story)
Q.
a. What are the narrative devices that the author uses to move the story forward?
b. What important “thin" rel="nofollow">ings” are there in" rel="nofollow">in this novel. What is their use to the story teller?
**There are only two prompts this time. I'd like for you to explore one of them a bit further than you've done in" rel="nofollow">in the past. I would look at how the teeth in" rel="nofollow">in the novel are workin" rel="nofollow">ing perhaps (although you could look at other thin" rel="nofollow">ings). Remember to thin" rel="nofollow">ink of the novel as a narrative machin" rel="nofollow">ine and the teeth as a vital drivin" rel="nofollow">ing part. I should read your journal and thin" rel="nofollow">ink "Oh, so that is what the teeth are doin" rel="nofollow">ing". Try to come up with somethin" rel="nofollow">ing in" rel="nofollow">interestin" rel="nofollow">ing, somethin" rel="nofollow">ing new, somethin" rel="nofollow">ing that is not obvious. Remember that I don't want you to thin" rel="nofollow">ink only on about plot (the teeth are there because without them X event wouldn't happen). Thin" rel="nofollow">ink bigger. Maybe you could build a sophisticated metaphor or simile? The Teeth in" rel="nofollow">in Story of My Teeth as _______________.
Remember that I need for you to develop your ideas. Your journal entries should show in" rel="nofollow">insight. They should be written clearly, be well structured (topic sentences, paragraph structure, conclusion language, etc), refer to the text appropriately, and have a level of analysis. Are you answerin" rel="nofollow">ing HOW the story is gettin" rel="nofollow">ing the job done? Are you quotin" rel="nofollow">ing? I do not want plain" rel="nofollow">in summary. Analysis is key.
These ONLY are startin" rel="nofollow">ing places for your journal. DEVELOP them as you write. These are not simple response questions. In addition to strong writin" rel="nofollow">ing, I will grade on your in" rel="nofollow">insights and "big ideas". You do not have to answer all three questions for each story. Remember this is not a straight quiz, you are not just "fillin" rel="nofollow">ing in" rel="nofollow">in the blanks" for the questions and tryin" rel="nofollow">ing to fin" rel="nofollow">ind the "right" answer. Focus on what you fin" rel="nofollow">ind in" rel="nofollow">interestin" rel="nofollow">ing. Make sure you are providin" rel="nofollow">ing an argument. Make sure you support it.
Second page is quote book.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ADD PAGE NUMBERS FOR YOUR QUOTES.
Perhaps look for thin" rel="nofollow">ings governin" rel="nofollow">ing objects in" rel="nofollow">in the novel? There are the teeth for sure, but are there any other objects that are imbued with "power"? What are the thin" rel="nofollow">ings in" rel="nofollow">in this novel that are unique to it? That are absolutely necessary?
Maybe look for powerful objects as this would be in" rel="nofollow">interestin" rel="nofollow">ing to fin" rel="nofollow">ind in" rel="nofollow">in other novels too (for that paper you'd be examin" rel="nofollow">inin" rel="nofollow">ing the roles that the various objects play). I would thin" rel="nofollow">ink that you could look for ideas of fate also. Or even how the objects in" rel="nofollow">intersect with fate!
Your quote book will be in" rel="nofollow">in 3 parts.
1. Stated theme. This must me a sentence or two that explain" rel="nofollow">ins what the theme is that you will be lookin" rel="nofollow">ing for. Please tell me WHY you thin" rel="nofollow">ink this theme is important. I will be lookin" rel="nofollow">ing for that word BECAUSE.
2. Copy and pastin" rel="nofollow">ing of 5 quotes. Your quotes must be selected from the entirety of the readin" rel="nofollow">ing (not all of it can come from the first pages, etc). These should be a few sentences long, there will need to be enough context to understand them. It is important that these quotes seem relevant. This is how I grade that you have in" rel="nofollow">indeed read the work. YOU MUST PROVIDE PAGES OR LOCATION NUMBERS
3. A sin" rel="nofollow">ingle paragraph that that tells me HOW the quotes show your your theme. I also would like a sentence tellin" rel="nofollow">ing me which story did the BEST job of showin" rel="nofollow">ing the theme and why. There should also be in" rel="nofollow">introduction and conclusion language in" rel="nofollow">in this paragraph. You should touch on why fin" rel="nofollow">indin" rel="nofollow">ing these themes is important.
