For this journal entry, you will be practicing landscape reading on an image of your own choosing. For a
reminder on the landscape reading process, refer to the landscape reading exercise and the last slide in the
Landscapes lecture. See if you can identify some of the processes (human, cultural, economic, natural, etc.)
that are shaping the image you've chosen. In particular, see if you can identify expressions (or absences) of
power, wealth, and privilege.
This assignment is due on Nov 1.
Directions
Find an image of a landscape you find interesting. You have two options for locating an image: ( I want to
choose option B can be France Paris, or Italy Venice either one can be good. You can pick any photo from the
research results you want)
Option A: Take a photo of some place in your neighborhood, near your place of work, or somewhere you visit
frequently.
Option B: Go to Flickr.com (Links to an external site.). In the search box, type the name of a country you've
wanted to visit (or have some interest in). Pick a photo from the search results. Choose a photo of a landscape
that has sufficient detail for you to do your reading: for example, a close-up shot of a parrot probably won't work
that well.
Follow the critical landscape reading process on your image. Spend most of your effort making inferences
about the processes that are shaping the landscape (you don't need to spend as much time itemizing
everything you see).
Write up your landscape reading in the text entry box below, or in a separate file that you upload. Be as
detailed as you can: the length of your response will depend on the image you choose, but I expect a minimum
of about 300 words.
Be sure to upload your chosen image as well (if you chose Option A) or include a link to it (if you chose Option
B).
The 2 pptx documents and the Additional Material Realms, regions, and landscapes are extra materials to
know more about this topic.
