Laws directed at anti-bullying in the workplace.
Many states have attempted to introduce laws directed at anti-bullying in the workplace. Reflect on and share an experience where you or someone you know have been the subject of bullying in the workplace. Do you feel bullying in the workplace is a problem that warrants a legislative response? How does this experience (or lack of experience) influence your position on the requirement of legislation?
Sample Answer
I have not personally experienced bullying in the workplace, but I have heard stories from friends and colleagues who have been bullied. These stories have ranged from being excluded from meetings and social events to being subjected to verbal abuse and threats. The impact of bullying on the victim can be devastating, both emotionally and professionally. It can lead to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and even physical health problems. In some cases, it can lead to the victim leaving their job.
I believe that bullying in the workplace is a serious problem that warrants a legislative response. There are already laws in place that protect employees from discrimination and harassment, but these laws do not specifically address bullying. A legislative response would send a clear message that bullying is not tolerated and that there are consequences for those who engage in it.
