1. Choose a leader who you will use as the subject of this assignment.
   a. There should be sufficient information written about your chosen leader to enable
   you to investigate the topics you need to write for this assignment.
   b. He or she could be a leader of a business, or a leader of a division or section within
   a business, or a leader of an organisation such as a trade union, or a significant
   lobby group.
   c. You should select someone about whom you can investigate in at least four types
   of media* so that your investigation is not confined to what you read on the
   Internet.
   ∗ Media could be defined as Books, Journal/Newspaper articles, reports, interviews and web
   sites.

2. Provide a background description of your chosen leader. Your description should include
   an explanation of:
   • background
   • qualifications
   • experience
   • the characteristics, behaviours or traits of your chosen leader.
3. Answer the following questions about the leader you have chosen. Use citations from
   your research to support each of your answers: (Your answer must use theories, models
   and use vocabulary to illustrate your points.)
   a. Describe at least two strategies that a leader can use to improve workplace culture.
   b. Describe how the leader shaped workplace culture in an organisation he or she leads or has
   led. What strategies did he or she use to improve workplace culture?

   c. Describe whether or not the culture within his or her organisation was effective. Either -
   Why or why not?
4. Choose a Maori/Iwi/hapu business and make comparison between the organisational
   culture of that business and the organisational culture of a business managed using New
   Zealand European principles and ideas.
   Your answer needs to explore:
   • different cultural values (eg. Use of Te Reo. Tikanga Maori)
   • leadership and management philosophies and styles (eg. Decision making, problem
   solving, communication)
   Please provide examples that show the differences or similarities.
