Learner Autobiography and Philosophy of Education

A philosophy of teaching is an important guide for the decisions you will make as a professional educator. Although you can expect that your philosophy will change (or become more refined) as you progress through the program, articulating your philosophy of education:
Helps you to examine your own views and motivations regarding education and teaching. Helps you to identify your goals as a professional educator. Helps you to reflect on your teaching practice and how you can continuously improve as a professional educator throughout your career. Your experiences as a learner have also had an important influence on your philosophy of education and your identity as a future educator. Think about your life experiences by addressing the following questions:
What were some of your positive and negative experiences with teachers during the course of your education? What teachers inspired you and why? Why are you choosing to become a teacher now? After you have reflected on your personal learner experiences, locate and complete the Educational Philosophy Survey in "Assignment Documents" to gauge how your current beliefs correspond to various educational philosophies. Do the results surprise you at all?
Write about your life experiences (according to the guiding questions above) and survey findings in a short reflective essay that also demonstrates your mastery of good academic writing skills, including: cover page, introduction, autobiographical information, survey results, implications for your future teaching practice, conclusion, and references page.
