able to become a stronger leader/mentor from the experience. The letter should be no more than a page in" rel="nofollow">in length. Steve was one of my best buddies. He was an artist and
the best example of unconditional love that I’ve ever seen in" rel="nofollow">in my life. He would make you feel like you were the only person in" rel="nofollow">in the world and would give you his full
attention. We met each other through a mutual friend at work and got along really well. We clicked--our friendship was effortless and purposeful. Eventually he moved
to the Prin" rel="nofollow">inceton area from Maryland. We worked together for a year, went to church together and lived life in" rel="nofollow">in each other′s spheres. At one poin" rel="nofollow">int Steve became very ill
and required weekly visits to go through treatment. This lasted for several years, I’m not sure how many. I remember the first time he had to go to a hospital and he
was in" rel="nofollow">in the ICU. My husband and I went and visited him. We had to wear masks and we sang to him to comfort him durin" rel="nofollow">ing the struggle. Then he was stronger and was able to
be home and carry on a somewhat normal life. Bein" rel="nofollow">ing around him was like havin" rel="nofollow">ing a breath of fresh air, it was like bein" rel="nofollow">ing in" rel="nofollow">in the presence of an angel. In the last years
before he passed on we would get together and talk about life and what is most important--thin" rel="nofollow">ings of a metaphysical nature. He never once complain" rel="nofollow">ined. Then one evenin" rel="nofollow">ing
in" rel="nofollow">in March, 2014 I received a call from his wife to let me know what the prognosis was… he wasn’t expected to live long. I took the night train" rel="nofollow">in home from Boston to
Prin" rel="nofollow">inceton and went straight to the hospital at 3:30 am. I spent the last 4 days of his life by his side, with his wife and family. One day about 11 years ago he came
to visit me at work but I wasn’t there. He left a little note on my desk. It said, “…just Love…,” and I have kept that note at my desk at work ever sin" rel="nofollow">ince. When I am
havin" rel="nofollow">ing a rough day or havin" rel="nofollow">ing to go in" rel="nofollow">into a meetin" rel="nofollow">ing that feels like it might be difficult, when I disagree with someone… I look at that note and I remember... just Love.
He was referrin" rel="nofollow">ing to Love as our spiritual nature, not only the human sense of love. Sometimes I just look at it as a foundational thought to anythin" rel="nofollow">ing I’m doin" rel="nofollow">ing;
writin" rel="nofollow">ing a talk, in" rel="nofollow">interactin" rel="nofollow">ing with others, workin" rel="nofollow">ing through the day to day. It’s the simplest yet most powerful idea that he ever shared with me that contin" rel="nofollow">inues to in" rel="nofollow">inspire
my life and leadership style every day. His life remin" rel="nofollow">inds me to be my best and always be there for others, to have my character be one of consistency through every
aspect of my life in" rel="nofollow">in a way that others can rely on. The way he lived and transitioned out of this life contin" rel="nofollow">inues to encourage me to let divin" rel="nofollow">ine Love lead in" rel="nofollow">in everythin" rel="nofollow">ing
I do, to be patient and forgivin" rel="nofollow">ing with others and myself, to be conscientious and kin" rel="nofollow">ind, to be in" rel="nofollow">inclusive. In my lin" rel="nofollow">ine of work in" rel="nofollow">in religious min" rel="nofollow">inistry, this style works, in" rel="nofollow">in
fact, it is requisite to be successful. I’m still learnin" rel="nofollow">ing to develop these qualities more consistently. His life contin" rel="nofollow">inues to serve as a beacon to me in" rel="nofollow">in everythin" rel="nofollow">ing I
do, in" rel="nofollow">includin" rel="nofollow">ing leadership. It remin" rel="nofollow">inds me to listen when others are strugglin" rel="nofollow">ing, and lift others up on a daily basis. Often it′s the simplest life lessons that in" rel="nofollow">inspire us
the most and keep us grounded - this is one of them
