General Instructions: (Follow these instructions for all three reading reflections)
Before you begin:
Please remember that all posts must be written in APA format. This means that you must reference the required reading, as well as any additional sources you are referring to using in text citations.
Your reading reflection should be approximately 500 words in total. Your submission must be submitted as a Microsoft word file as FOL cannot read open office or pages files.
Remember: If you are using a direct quote (the words you are using are exactly the same as the text) you will cite like this: Start the quotation with open quotation marks (“) write the quote verbatim (using the exact words you see in the source text) **If you need to change a word due to grammatical correctness or consistency of tense you may do so using square brackets [was]. At the end of the quote you must close the quotation marks (“) and then put the citation information in brackets at the end of the quote (Author’s last name, year of publication, page number).
Please see the example below:
“A starting point for critical reflection is a clear statement of how we view children” (Callaghan, 2013 p.11).
If you need to change a word: In her paper Callaghan said that “A starting point for critical reflection [was] a starting point for critical reflection” (Callaghan, 2013 p. 11)
If you are paraphrasing (you are stating another author’s idea in your own words) you will cite like this: Because you are using your own words, you do not need to use quotation marks. If you are paraphrasing a specific idea from the source text (as seen in the example below) you will add a page number. If you are paraphrasing the general content of the article as a whole, you do not need to add a page number.
Please see example below:
According to Callaghan, to be effective at reflective practice, we need to have a clear and shared understanding of how we see the children that we work with (Callaghan, 2013 p. 11).
Reflective practice is an essential skill for early childhood educators (Callaghan, 2013).
Please remember that your reading reflection is due on the night before our class meeting.
As per Fanshawe College policy, I will deduct 10% per day for assignments that are late.
