Listening Portfolio

Compile a listening portfolio of 20 recordings of musical works from multiple historical periods and genres. Your listening list can include some folk, world, jazz, and popular music, as long as your list represents selections fro each of the different periods studied this semester. Selections must be supplemental to required MLP listening selections. Discussion of selections with Active Listening Guides will not receive credit. Name all composers, musical era, specific years of composition, names of forms, number of movements and relevant historical facts. Distinguish songwriters and composers from performers. Discuss each recording naming performers and recording label, using objective musical terminology learned in this course, covering elements like melody, harmony, rhythm, form, texture, and timbre. Do not use subjective criteria for this assignment. This paper should be at least 1000 words in length not counting the works cited list. The works cited should include a variety of sources, including at least one source in print.
