Literary analysis

An analysis should move beyond a summary. If you find that you are simply summarizing the story, you are NOT writing an analysis. You can approach a critical analysis from any of the following ways:You can do an extended character analysis. Choose a specific character (or characters) from the story and analyze the character traits and/or
character development over the course of the story. A character analysis might include description of the character's physical appearance, mental state, and actions (with regard to how these things affect or contribute to the character's role in the story and/or the theme of the story).You can consider the social implications of the story (determine the theme and what that theme may convey about the human experience).You can analyze the way the author uses literary elements such as symbolism, theme, setting, tone, or point of view to convey meaning in the story.
