Management
As a team there was definitely times when each of us wasn’t pulling their own weight and in those moments we saw all the disadvantages of working in a group. To resolve this problem we talked to the individual about the issue and walked him through his task and offered plenty of help. On the other hand when we all finished our assigned task on time and met together to discuss our finding we were able to think very creatively as well as analytically which surprised us all. One of the main things we learned was about each other and how even though we might come from different backgrounds we are very similar.
One thing we all have in common is that we are very reserved and introverted, but we made an effort to work on this skill as entire group. In fact, on our team contract we all agreed to partake in activities that will enhance our communications skills and increase our confidence. For example, we were able to motivate and push each other during our salsa class. Getting outside our comfort zone was challenging, but having each other for support and to rely on definitely made it easier than doing it alone.
Equally important, the moment when we came together in a group was only after there was laughter and the realization that we are very alike. Correspondingly, when we had a good time together that’s when our guards was down and we were able to speak and act with confidence and it made everything come together more naturally as opposed to forced as was the case during our first meeting as a team.
Overall this was definitely an eye opening experience as we were made aware of the advantages and disadvantages of working in a group. We all agreed that we would work together again because we all feel that our communication and leadership skills were improved as a result of challenging ourselves to work on our weaknesses.
