In your essay, consider how management approaches have constructed a certain image of the person at work, and discuss what consequences this has for how people be managed. Take roughly 50 words in the introduction only.
Main body should contain 3 key parts: (1) Firstly, compare humanism with behaviourism. Mayo(Human relation school)(with Hawthorne as well) and Maslow should be mentioned in for humanism and Skinner and Taylorism in the behaviourism. They should be compared and show how it affects people at work.
(2) Secondly, please talk about personality. Personality’s theories mainly come from Allport and Eysenck, how did they categorize employees and help the business to identify their employees’ affect and emotion? Also, compare the professional work vs the low status work would be great because their job design have shaped employees’ emotion (i.e. emotional labour, classic example to use are the traditional airline vs low cost airline and caregiver…). Last but not least in part 2, please introduce psychometric testing is commonly used when companies’ recruit new employees and it’s becoming popular.
(3) The third part to be mentioned would probably be social psychology. It includes identification of the person itself, the employees’ belief in its organization, and social relation in the organization, For example Google has a good atmosphere for their employees to work at, they build the feeling of family and encourages people to work with freedom… (More detail will be provided within the next 24 hours about this third area I want to cover ) (Main attribution in this area will be Lewin and Festinger)
