Task: Critical debate paper and reflective statement
Critical debate paper (approx. 1,000 words, +/-10% ie 900-1100 wods)
You will write a fully-referenced essay that that addresses the widely-debated question “Is marketin" rel="nofollow">ing a force for good or evil?” You should explain" rel="nofollow">in and justify, based
on your readin" rel="nofollow">ing of relevant literature, your personal position on the debate as to the in" rel="nofollow">influence of marketin" rel="nofollow">ing on society.
• A “critical debate paper” means that you must provide a critical evaluation of the issue under in" rel="nofollow">investigation – not just “what you thin" rel="nofollow">ink” – thus, you should base your
views around a central argument and undertake appropriate readin" rel="nofollow">ing and research to support both the “for” and “again" rel="nofollow">inst” positions for that argument.
• “Fully-referenced” means that your analysis MUST be supported by an absolute min" rel="nofollow">inimum of SIX references, THREE of which should be from academic journal papers and
THREE from reputable, trustworthy sources. Given the wide scope of marketin" rel="nofollow">ing ethics, it is suggested that you focus on one particular issue, for example one of the
followin" rel="nofollow">ing: environment and sustain" rel="nofollow">inability; healthy eatin" rel="nofollow">ing and obesity; marketin" rel="nofollow">ing to children and vulnerable consumers; sex in" rel="nofollow">in advertisin" rel="nofollow">ing; shockin" rel="nofollow">ing and offensive

Reflective statement (maximum 200 words)
At the end of your essay you should in" rel="nofollow">include a statement that reflects upon the way you went about doin" rel="nofollow">ing this piece of assessment and what you learnt from it, for
example: • How did you assure the trustworthin" rel="nofollow">iness of your source material, e.g. why are you confident about the reliability of the sources and the credibility of the
authors you have cited in" rel="nofollow">in your work? • What did you learn about yourself while doin" rel="nofollow">ing this exercise? • How could you use the learnin" rel="nofollow">ing from this exercise in" rel="nofollow">in your future
work?
