Topic 1: Messages from television
What are the hidden messages of the television medium? Pretend you are from another country and only know about the United States by what you have seen on television via satellite. How would you describe:
A. American people- age description, gender distribution, ethnic groups, occupation?
B. American daily life-activities, dress, language, problem, food, drinks, medicines?
C. American institutions-government, schools, families, hospitals, courts?
D. American values – materialism, humanism, success, competitiveness, altruism, aggressiveness, sexuality?

Topic 2: Fairy Tales
What are the hidden messages in fairy tales? Pick a fairy tale (for examples, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Litter Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the beast, and so on) and:
A. Analyze it for the portrayal of certain values – beauty, wealth, aggressiveness,and status, magic.
B. Analyze it for the portrayal of role – gender, ethnicity, age.
C. Citing certain developmental abilities, discussing possible beneficial and/or harmful effects of fairy tales on children.
D. Analyze and evaluate the factors that both positively and negatively influence the socialization of the child/yourself.
