- Identify your population of interest and provide a broad presentation of health disparities in this group: Female Minorities with Alzheimer's - Rates of Alzheimer’s disease are substantially higher for African-Americans and Hispanics.
- Identify the specific problem to be addressed in this paper. Include rationale for why this is a priority issue: The major problem is the projected number of Alzheimer's patients is expected to increase, this includes the widening disparities among women and minorities. Problems would include the cost (Discuss the cost burden of Alzheimer’s disease for federal/state governments and individuals/caregivers.), caregiver burden, and the health care system burden.
- Provide epidemiological data describing the population health disparities.
- Discuss current surveillance methods (identify if surveillance is local, national, and/or global).
I was able to see some national-level information from the CDC and global surveillance methods from the WHO. I am not sure if there is some other place to look or even how to find local information? These are the two key sources of data for many disorders (CDC and WHO). Typically you find how/where information is gathered on your disease through your research. Articles usually mention where they pull data from. So just briefly mention that data can be pulled from CDC and WHO.

- Discuss the availability of this data for clinicians, policymakers, and consumers.
Is it easy for consumers or policymakers to find if they want more information on the topic? In healthcare, we are used to looking for data. Think about the perspective of the non-healthcare person…..can they find out information on the disease/disorder too? This question is really more applicable for diseases that are less common, difficult to track, or when looking at it from a global perspective. For example, if someone was looking at the impact of diabetes in some parts of Africa, there may not be adequate access to data in those areas. Some countries may have a surveillance system in place and some may not. So, for you, this will be a short answer because the data on your topic is readily available.
- Describe the ethical, economic, social, political, and environmental impacts on this population’s health status.
- Select and summarize two evidence-supported, culturally relevant, theoretically based interventions (published in peer-reviewed journals) to address the population health concern.
- Propose outcome measures that would be used to measure the impact of the intervention on the health of the select population.
- Discuss the role of the APRN in facilitating inter-professional collaboration to improve the health of the population.
