We have a lot of different art movements and schools of art that fit under the umbrella of “Modernism” (defined
in your textbook as 1900 to 1945, Europe and North America). Please choose one movement that the textbook
mentions that you feel particularly interested in or drawn to, and find out about an artist of that movement who
is NOT in your textbook. Do a little “research” around the internet and cite the source of your information on
that person and their art, but use your OWN words to explain, in a short paper, the following:
A little bit about the biography of the artist, how that might relate to how they saw the world, and the art they
created
A particular example of their art, and your OWN visual analysis of it
How this example fits into their larger body of work.
Please note I will be checking these short essays for plagiarism, particularly with regards to the visual analysis
portion. Facts from the artist’s life do not have to be cited in the text (though please include your source in a
bibliography) but anything that is an INTERPRETATION or an OPINION have to be your own thoughts/ideas,
AND your own words
