Mother Tongue

"Mother Tongue," "Indian Education" are examples of personal narratives: a true life narrative told through a creative and descriptive lens. Using your own creative voice, write a personal narrative about a memorable aspect of your own life. As you relate your story, try to give your personal experience meaning for your readers. In other words, demonstrate how your own experience may be common to many others even as you reveal your story’s uniqueness. Try to pick a specific incident or stay focused on a specific theme rather than covering multiple ideas across your life. Remember to show the reader rather than merely tell. Incorporate dialogue and descriptive language. Consider the storytelling techniques in our own assigned readings, though you may create your own style as well.
