New Health IT That Occurred in the Past 90 Days

Our text contains useful information on healthcare information systems. But the text was last updated in early 2017. Imagine the text's authors have asked you to help them with updates for their next edition.

Specifically, they have asked you to research a significant, health IT event/announcement that occurred within the past 90 days(*). Examples include IT product announcements, new releases of health IT standards, health IT company acquisitions/alliances, legal rulings that affect health IT, and health IT industry conferences. Events that affect both healthcare organizations and consumers (e.g., a new wellness wearable device) are ok, but focus on the impact to healthcare organizations. Skip events that are mostly relevant to consumers (e.g., a routine announcement of a new smartphone).

Submit a 1-2 page summary, or a short PowerPoint presentation, of what you find to the Assignments tool. Include these sections:

Summary: A brief summary (what, when, where, who) of the health IT event/announcement/news item.
Why We Should Care: Discuss its potential impact to healthcare organizations and why you consider it significant (e.g., what business issue, need, or opportunity does it address)
References: An APA style citation for each reference, including a url.

On your designated date, you will give a quick summary in class (visual aids not required) and answer questions.

If you're not sure where to start, browse one of the resources listed in D2L > Other Tools > Links.

(*) The 90-day time window refers to when the event occurred. Publication of a health IT article is not an "event," unless the article by itself has unusual significance.
