The goal of this assignment is to demonstrate your group’s ability to understand, evaluate, and apply, the ideas and concepts presented in" rel="nofollow">in class through analysis of a current issue/event as reported in" rel="nofollow">in a reputable news article. The article chosen must highlight components of the previous week’s lessons/topics, in" rel="nofollow">includin" rel="nofollow">ing major theories and concepts. The analysis of the news article should in" rel="nofollow">include some discussion around the source of the news article as well as alternative perspectives on the news topic presented (2-3 alternative views min" rel="nofollow">inimum). Students will first deliver a presentation on the current issue/event to outlin" rel="nofollow">ine the most important issues, topics and analysis and apply them to the previous week’s lessons/discussions. The group will also be responsible for facilitatin" rel="nofollow">ing a class discussion on the concepts and article presented. This means bein" rel="nofollow">ing respectful of everyone’s opin" rel="nofollow">inions, askin" rel="nofollow">ing promptin" rel="nofollow">ing questions, and bein" rel="nofollow">ing an active listener and participant in" rel="nofollow">in the discussion.
Students will select one article to analyze, the article must be current in" rel="nofollow">in nature and from a reputable news source. This means you must understand and analyze where the article has come from, identify potential biases and how this might affect the opin" rel="nofollow">inion or perspective of the writer. The purpose of this activity is to allow students the opportunity to apply theories and concepts that are discussed in" rel="nofollow">in the course to contemporary issues. All presentations must be completed by week 10.
