You will need to create a retail establishment and follow the following format to answer questions about your store. (May b product or service.) The final project must be turned in typed, double-spaced and in a file/folder. A reference page should be included. A rubric will be used to grade the project. This rubric will be provided to you as a guide. Information, terminology and concepts from the book MUST be used to complete the final paper. Outside information may also be needed.

  1. A tvlission Statement a. Make sure the mission statement follows the guidelines established in your te.book. b. Try to include some ethical considerations. c. What is your competitive advantage? d. What does your companies SWOT analysis look like? (See below to help.)

  2. Goals and Objectives a. Create at least one objective from each of the four objective categories. (Market Performance, Financial Performance. Personal and Societal)
  3. Demographics a. This must include a description , your specific (core) target market. b. Include future markets you may try to capture. This may mean adding additional products at a future date. c. In this situation would a broadly or more narrowly defined market create more customer visits to the store? (See below) d. Discuss traffic and sensitivity analysis for your business. (See below) e. Discuss economic, social and population trends that may affect your retail establishment.
  4. Competition a. There should be an evaluation , who exactly your competition will b (give name's of actual existing retailers). b. Who will be your competition in the future? c. Talk about non-related competitors that may b threat (catalogs, unrelated products, etc….) d. List A least one example of an intratype competitor and one example of an intertype competitor.
  5. Legal and Ethical Behavior a. Research and describe two laws that will apply to your organization. How will they each affect you? b. Discuss pricing, promotion, product and supply-chain constraints that may affect you.
  6. Location a. A specific location will need A be established (find an actual address, either an empty At, or replacing a current retail establishment). b. U. a map A show the road structure and placement , other commercial businesses in the area (one block area) c. Spell out the advantages and disadvantages of the location. d. Explain why you chose this location. e. Do a retail location and site analysis.
  7. Merchandise a. Give a listing of the merchandise you will carry. b. Will it be related products or un-related products? c. How will inventory be purchases? d. Discuss merchandise mix and constraints.
  8. Pricing a. What will be the markup (general percentage) for the it you will carry? b. What pricing strategy will be used? c. What will be your break even point? This will require you to estimate your expenses and base product costs and figure out how much product you need to sell in order to break even, with no profit. Include a summary of how you arrived at this figure. d. How will you handle markdowns? e. Where do you see your business financially in 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years?
  9. Advertising and Promotion a. Give one physical example of an ad or promotion that you may use. It may be a newspaper ad, magazine ad, brochure, billboard drawing, etc… Use your software (or hand draw) as best you can to construct an actual advertisement. b. Identify where you would use this dor promotion. c. Give a list of where you will advertise (by percentage). This is best done by a pie chart or graph. d. Discuss your promotional objectives and the steps you will use in your advertising campaign. e. What, if any, sales promotions will you use?
  10. Customer Service a. Discuss the customer service strategies you will use. b. How will you monitor customer service levels? c. Will salespeople be used? How? Training? Compensation?
