Nitrogen

Nitrogen Paper details: 2. Nitrogen - Springfield Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility – Collect wastewater samples at various points in the treatment process and analyze the samples for nitrogen using a Hach spectrophotometer.  Work with treatment plant operators to recommend and experiment with full-scale process modifications and then determine how nitrogen removal is affected.  Results will be tabulated, graphed, evaluated and reported both in a written report and a poster that will be presented at CETA Design Day and a regional wastewater conference in January (if accepted).  Groups will determine the fate of ammonia though the treatment facility by collecting and analyzing samples from the influent, primary effluent, final effluent, and sidestreams from centrifuges and gravity belt thickeners.  Students will work closely with one of the treatment facility operators.
