My Experience with Inflammation: Acute Tendonitis
Inflammation is the body’s localized response to injury or infection, characterized by a specific sequence of biological events.
Cause: My experience stemmed from overuse/mechanical trauma (specifically, Achilles tendonitis from repetitive running). This triggered a cellular response where damaged tissue released chemical mediators like histamine and bradykinin.
Appearance: The area exhibited classic erythema (redness) and edema (swelling). This was due to increased vasodilation and capillary permeability, allowing fluid and white blood cells to leak into the interstitial space.
Impaired Function: There was a significant loss of function (functio laesa). The swelling and pain created a limited range of motion in the ankle, preventing the normal "push-off" phase of walking.
Sensations: I experienced localized heat (calor) and sharp pain (dolor). The pain was caused by the pressure of the edema on local nerve endings and the chemical irritation of the inflammatory mediators.
