Nursing Preference of Topical Silver Sulfadiazine Versus Collagenase Ointment for Treatment of Partial Thickness Burns in Children

Although our objective outcome data indicate equivalent
results between CO and SSD,11 our experienced bum
nurses continue to utilize CO. We issued a questionnaire
to the nurses who participated in our previous prospective trial to ascertain their opinions on the use of SSD
versus CO for the treatment of partial thickness bums.
METHODS
Between September 2012 and December 2012, an electronic survey (Figure 1) was distributed to all nurses involved in our previous trial between January 2008 and
January 2 0 1 1 .11 The study nurses were required to indicate the length of time they had been providing bum care.
Nurses were asked to rate the application and removal of
SSD and CO from very easy to very difficult. Furthermore,
they were asked to describe their preferences toward the
