Discussion 1
Post 3 examples (based on Internet research you have conducted) of a reasonable accommodation an organization has made (be specific).
Example.
1- One reasonable accommodation was that Lowes hired a disabled veteran and his service dog. The man was medically retired from the military at age 35 because he had multiple knee surgeries and was unable to perform his duties. Because of those surgeries he was prone to falling and needed a service dog to help him get up. He was unable to find a job a job because he needed his dog 24/7, so he was working as a “handy-man”. He applied to work at Lowes and the company was willing to hire both him and his dog.
2- Target took a stance on making policy changes to accommodate an ever-growing population. Target, along with other major companies, have recently changed their bathroom and changing room policies specifically for transgender customers. These policy changes would now allow a transgender customer to go to the specific bathroom or changing room of the gender which they identify. No longer are the customers required or encouraged to go the dressing room or bathroom that matches their sex at the time of their birth.
3- Interstate rest areas are making accommodations of their own. It has been identified that there is a higher need and want for family restrooms. The interstate rest areas have been making the changes to their facilities to accommodate these individuals that prefer them. There are multiple reasons why parents prefer family restrooms versus a gender specific restroom. One example is that single parents prefer this if they are with young children of the opposite sex and the children are too old to be taken into the restroom of the opposite gender and too young to go alone.
Discussion 2
In your Organizational Behavior I course, you studied Organizational Structure and Charts. It is interesting to note where the HR department falls within each company's organizational chart.
• Before class, research and locate one small, and one large company where you are able to find the HR department and determine where it is located (not physically, but within an organizational structure).
• Diagrams are not required. However, if you are able to find a pictorial chart that would be interesting for us to see you may upload the chart as an attachment.
