Personal Internet Use and Risk Management

Project Objectives: Project Objectives: Your use of Electronic Communication (email), the World Wide Web, and Social Media gives you tremendous power. As the quote from the original Spider-Man movie states “With great power comes great responsibility”. Use of Internet technologies involves risk. To address risk, the following steps can be taken. 1. Avoid risk. This can be done by withdrawing from or not becoming involved with the risk activity 2. Accept risk. This is done by choosing to take the chance of negative impact. 3. Reduce risk. This can be done by taking steps to reduce the impact or likelihood of the risk. 4. Transfer risk. This can be done by outsourcing or insuring against the risk. In this assignment you need to describe your use of Electronic Communication (email), the World Wide Web, and Social Media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, etc.). You will then need to list steps you currently take and may consider in the future to avoid, accept, reduce and/or transfer risk in the use of these activities. Please refer to rubric for specifications on grading and write a paper no more or less than 3 pages. Project Deliverables: Deliverable 1: How do you currently use the Internet? [One page - 15 Points] Describe your use of Electronic Communication (email), the World Wide Web, and Social Media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, etc.). You should state the name(s) of the software you use for work, school, and social and describe the types of use for each. You should list these in three separate paragraphs. Contents in this page should be specific and in nutshell. This deliverable should be no more or less than one page, 12 font double spaced, Arial or Times Roman, 5 points will be taken off otherwise. Deliverable 2: How do you perform risk management when you use the Internet? [One Page - 15 Points] Describe your risk management approach to Electronic Communication (email), the World Wide Web, and Social Media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, etc.). You should list these in three separate paragraphs. In answering this describe how you currently use email security and privacy settings, web browser security and privacy settings, and social media security and privacy settings. At a minimum you should discuss how you avoid and reduce risk. Contents in this page should be specific and in nutshell. This deliverable should be no more or less than one page, 12 font double spaced, Arial or Times Roman, 5 points will be taken off otherwise. Deliverable 3: What additional risk management steps would you consider in your use of the Internet? [One page - 15 Points] Describe additional risk management steps you might consider for your use of Electronic Communication (email), the World Wide Web, and Social Media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
