Assignment
purpose To provide you with an opportunity to compare and contrast popular culture sources versus research based sources regardin" rel="nofollow">ing communication within" rel="nofollow">in relationships.
Assignment overview In this paper, you will choose 2 popular culture sources (i.e. magazin" rel="nofollow">ines) articles regardin" rel="nofollow">ing effective communication in" rel="nofollow">in relationships and compare that to in" rel="nofollow">information found in" rel="nofollow">in scholarly research articles and communication text books.
Requirements Your paper will use at least five sources to write this 4-6 page paper (not in" rel="nofollow">includin" rel="nofollow">ing title page and citation page(s)). One of your sources must be our textbook and two must be “scholarly” sources. The other two sources will be magazin" rel="nofollow">ines.
“Scholarly” sources in" rel="nofollow">include books and research journals on in" rel="nofollow">interpersonal communication that are rooted in" rel="nofollow">in research rather than in" rel="nofollow">in personal experience or anecdotes. Great places to get sources in" rel="nofollow">include the library’s databases: Proquest, InfoTrac OneFile, and others. When searchin" rel="nofollow">ing for a scholarly source in" rel="nofollow">in the library’s databases, be sure to check search box for scholarly or research articles. You will prepare and in" rel="nofollow">include a traditional bibliography page for this paper in" rel="nofollow">in APA or MLA style citin" rel="nofollow">ing all your sources. In addition, your papers will in" rel="nofollow">include in" rel="nofollow">in-text citations givin" rel="nofollow">ing credit for paraphrased and quoted material from your sources. Both the bibliography and in" rel="nofollow">in-text citations are crucial parts of this paper and without either/both, your paper will automatically receive a zero.
Fin" rel="nofollow">inally, your paper should in" rel="nofollow">include a substantive in" rel="nofollow">introduction and conclusion as well as high quality writin" rel="nofollow">ing, and professional and consistent APA or MLA formattin" rel="nofollow">ing and documentation. Step 1:
Fin" rel="nofollow">ind Two Magazin" rel="nofollow">ine Articles First you will want to look at a number of magazin" rel="nofollow">ines to get ideas on topics. Magazin" rel="nofollow">ines you could consider in" rel="nofollow">include Cosmopolitan, Self, Seventeen, Shape, Men’s Health, Maxim, FHM, etc. You will be lookin" rel="nofollow">ing for articles regardin" rel="nofollow">ing types of relationships and relationship issues. Fin" rel="nofollow">ind two different articles that describe communication within" rel="nofollow">in relationships. These can be within" rel="nofollow">in the same magazin" rel="nofollow">ine, but should be completely different articles. Please do not choose articles related to celebrity relationships.

Step 2:
Do the Scholarly Research Once you have found two magazin" rel="nofollow">ine articles that in" rel="nofollow">interest you, you will then look through scholarly research sources (journal articles or other communication texts) for in" rel="nofollow">information you can use to prove or disprove the in" rel="nofollow">information given in" rel="nofollow">in the magazin" rel="nofollow">ine articles. We will discuss in" rel="nofollow">in class what is considered to be scholarly research, along with some techniques to fin" rel="nofollow">ind articles.
Step 3:

• Include a brief overview of what magazin" rel="nofollow">ines and what topics your paper will cover.

• Why is this topic is important to be studied? (i.e., What is the universal theme? So what? Who cares?)

Discussion of General Observations about what You Learned from the Paper (1 page)
• Include any additional thoughts you have about themes discovered from examin" rel="nofollow">inin" rel="nofollow">ing both magazin" rel="nofollow">ine articles and the research regardin" rel="nofollow">ing them.
Conclusion (1/2 page)
• Review what you’ve done in" rel="nofollow">in this paper/for this project. That is, restate your road map—the question, the answer, the highlights of the research and your experience, discussion, etc.
• Then, end with the significance of the project. Why does any of this (the project, the question, the answer) matter??? What can be gain" rel="nofollow">ined from readin" rel="nofollow">ing this or knowin" rel="nofollow">ing this?
Add your bibliography (in" rel="nofollow">in MLA it’s called Works Cited, in" rel="nofollow">in APA it’s called References).
Add a cover page if it appropriate to the style you are usin" rel="nofollow">ing.

Edit your paper (have the Writin" rel="nofollow">ing Center take a look at it for you!).
Notin" rel="nofollow">ing your sources Remember, your fin" rel="nofollow">inal paper will in" rel="nofollow">include attachin" rel="nofollow">ing your fin" rel="nofollow">inal, updated, precise bibliography in" rel="nofollow">in either MLA or APA style (which corresponds to the citation style you’ve chosen to write your paper in" rel="nofollow">in) to the end of your paper. This is a serious and formal research paper and thus demands proper attribution of expert thought and word. You must cite all of the sources listed on your bibliography in" rel="nofollow">in your paper. If you fail to cite sources in" rel="nofollow">in your paper and/or fail to turn in" rel="nofollow">in a bibliography with your paper, you will automatically fail the paper. Without research and documentation, this is not a research paper and thus will receive a zero.
