Portrayal of the American Dream in The Great Gatsby

Purpose and Instructions: Draw one's own conclusions as to the impact of the topic on literature of the period, as well as the impact of the historical context on the text itself. A literary research paper is a compilation & interpretation of a text & of critics' opinions on a specific subject in literary work. Since the selection of materials is filtered by the writer, the paper should reflect the author's views also; being both objective and subjective in content. The paper should be 5-7 pages and should be argumentative. The student must take a stance on the text they have chosen and defend it. The paper should include references from the primary text and from at least 4 secondary sources. The paper should contain both in-text citations and a works cited page. This is the idea I would like to work with, please: -For my literary analysis of The Great Gatsby, I plan to analyze the novel’s perception of the pursuit for wealth and the American dream. Focus on how each character seems to be living a life full of riches, but behind closed doors, they are all unhappy with their lives by analyzing the relationships between the characters, the allegory of the American Dream, and the point of view used in order to support my argument.
