The goal of this paper is to encourage students to think critically about education (both past and present) and to make connections between the academic content of this course and the real world. To this end, you will write a 3-4-page paper outlining your evidence-based position regarding one of the following topics:
• Was the feminization of the teaching profession a step forward or step backward for women?
• Is the current model of “school accountability” working? Why or why not?
• Should schools provide greater opportunities for “vocational” education? If you disagree, please explain why. If you agree, be sure to consider how and when students would be chosen for the vocational track, e.g., would they choose for themselves, would the school choose for them, and when would this process begin?
Strong papers will clearly articulate a thesis (argument) and justify that these with evidence. While I will not require any particular formatting (APA, Chicago, MLA, etc.), I do require at least 2-3 peer reviewed resources (e.g., peer reviewed journal articles or academic books).
