Part II
Now you are on your own. You are on a team of public health analysts for the State of Connecticut and want to know more about why there are so many drug-related deaths in the state.
This section will use the dataset Accidental Drug Related Deaths 2012-2018 Connecticut https://data.world/informatics-edu/accidental-drug-related-deaths-2012-201 8-connecticut This file has been cleaned up for your use.
Preparation
Download the file and add it as a new data source to Tableau.
Homework

  1. Create a dashboard that tells a story of what type of person dies from accidental overdoses and from what drugs.
  2. What is the trend from 2012-2015?
  3. What problems did you encounter?
  4. The data needs more cleaning as there are columns such as “null” and “unknown” for race.
  5. The CauseOfDeath Column is extremely messy with multiple labels meaning the same thing. For example – heroin intoxication and heroin toxicity (already fixed for you). For any meaningful interpretation some should be combined, and others deleted. Are there still some that should be combined?
  6. What can you say about the trend after cleaning the data?
  7. What races are most affected?
  8. What gender is the most affected?
  9. Where do most deaths occur?
  10. What is the overall trend in drug-related deaths?
  11. Provide screenshot of Tableau dashboard with your name as part of the dashboard title.
  12. Using the dataset https://data.world/informatics-edu/chapter-4-exercise-3-data-sets/file/Figure%204.4%20Data%20Set.xlsx (Links to an external site.) and Tableau create the 6 charts found on page 76 in the Hoyt chapter 4 Data Analysis handout found in figure 4.3. Examples (youtube videos) are linked from table 4.2 on page 79 of the chapter. Send screenshots.
  13. Using the dataset https://data.world/informatics-edu/chapter-4-exercise-3-data-sets/file/Figure%204.12%20Data%20Set.xlsx (Links to an external site.) and Excel, create the 7 charts found in figure 4.11 on page 80 in the chapter. Examples are found in table 4.3 on page 84. Send screenshots or the Excel file.

BIG DATA Homework
Read this article by a Google AI team that used AI to analyze big data from EHRs https://www. (Links to an external site.)nature.com/articles/s41746-018-0029-1 (Links to an external site.)

  1. What was unique about the article? What did the FHIR standard contribute? What was the impact of being able to mine both structured and unstructured healthcare data? How was success measured?
  2. Do a Google or Google Scholar search to determine how is healthcare data different from other data (e.g. economic data, etc.).
  3. Why is healthcare data different from other types of data?
  4. Include the citation for your source.
