The Canadian Centre for Occupational Safety and Health has identified 13 Psychosocial Risk Factors in the
Workplace (Links to an external site.) that "that impact organizational health, the health of individual employees
and the financial bottom line, including the way work is carried out and the context in which work occurs."
The UK's Health and Safety Executive also lists psychosocial risk factors at What are psychosocial risk
factors? (Links to an external site.)
Choose a psychosocial or organizational factor or variable (e.g. work-family balance, workload, co-worker
support for safety, trust, etc.). Try to select a factor that hasn't already been addressed by another student. Be
sure to fully identify your factor or variable and discuss its influence on or association with worker safety
behaviors and/or worker safety and health outcomes (e.g. worker perceptions, motivation, injury, illness, etc.).
Discuss how knowledge of these psychosocial risk factors and occupational health psychology theories could
be integrated by safety and health professional into the development and maintenance of hazard assessment
and control programs, policies, and initiatives.
