Discussion Questions
Urban design is inherently a response to opportunities and constraints. In what ways might that response be
improved to result in better urbanism? How can we, as designers and policy makers, support a better, more
ethical, built outcome? What is our role in shaping these opportunities and constraints? Consider the
relationship between design, planning and the development process in general, as well as in your own case
study project. Where were the conflicts between the demands of the process and urban design objectives?
How can conflicts be mitigated, opportunities be exploited, and urban design and planning have a greater role
in the production of the built environment? How can we promote better urbanism?
