Relevance to this Destination/Tourism impacts: Kelly (1997) discusses the idea that people prefer to be seen as a ‘traveler’ than as a ‘tourist’ and suggests that educating the tourist can help to meet this need. The article presents a study of the Community Aid Abroad/One World Travel Tours ‘as a model for a more benign form of tourism’ (p. 42). It seems to suggest that a type of ‘educational tourism’ that educates the tourist to be ‘travelwise’ would have a positive effect on reducing the negative impacts of tourism.
