Assessment: Design a social media research project
Students are asked to design one social media research project and describe it in the format of a structured essay

Students should structure the report with suggestive content as follows:
1) Introduction – give a brief overview of the research topic and methods to be used in the project. Explain, e.g., what the research background is, what the research objectives are, and why (motivation) it is important to conduct this research (200 words).
2) Literature Review: provide a brief overview and critical discussion of the literature in your chosen research topic and introduce your research question(s) (750 words).
3) Methodology: explain your data sampling and collection method, i.e. what social media data you will collect, how you will do so and its relationship to your research question(s); explain the data analysis methods, i.e., how will you analyse the data you collected to answer your research questions. You must justify your choice of data collection and analysis methods (700 words).
4) Ethical Stance - explain how you will address any ethical challenges associated with your project, including the data collection and presentation of your results. Consider issues such as data anonymisation, consent, practices from professional associations, institutional guidelines, etc (400 words).
3) Reflection: reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of your research design e.g. the implications of platform APIs for data collection, the limitations of tools and approaches used for data analysis, etc (700 words).
