First you will choose a ritual outside of your culture and religion and find resources about the ceremony. Once
you have observed the ritual, you will analyze your data by applying the appropriate anthropological concepts
learned in class. Then you will write 4-5 page (double spaced) ethnography, beginning with a brief background
on the ritual, followed by your observations of the event and your analysis of the ritual. The background
information should come from at least three library sources. The conclusion of the paper should consist of your
reflections on the event and how your fieldwork provided insight on the ritual of your interest, based on the
topics and concepts we cover in this class. You have a variety of options to complete your assignment and
write your paper:
- Library Research - Conduct research on a specific ritual of interest from ebooks, academic journal articles,
news articles from reputable sources, and reputable websites (check with me if you're not sure whether a
website of your interest qualifies). Please keep in mind that Wikipedia is not a legitimate source for a research
paper. - Stream videos on specific rituals from Alexander Street (Ссылки на внешний сайт.), Films on Demand
(Ссылки на внешний сайт.), Folkstreams (Ссылки на внешний сайт.), and Youtube (Ссылки на внешний
сайт.) - if you can find an educational video of a ritual that interests you on any of these platforms, you can
write your paper on that video. Make sure to find an educational video that is longer than 30 minutes, so you
can gain insight on the ritual and respond to the questions outlined in the paper guidelines. This will not be an
issue on Kanopy and Folkstream, but can be challenging on Youtube. The best way to approach this
assignment is to first identify the ritual you are interested in exploring, then search these platforms for videos
on the topic. - Find and watch streaming of a live religious ritual - You can find several religious organizations doing this
online, since people are not allowed to gather in large group
