Write a one-to-two-page paper (not including title page or references, submit as a Word document).
Read Case Study 34: Roundabouts (Case Studies are located at the end of the textbook). Then do the
following:
- Explain the creative middle ground approach.
- Identify the conflicting interests/values of safety, efficiency, cost, and equal access. Be sure to consider the
codes and laws. - Identify the options or courses of action available to an engineer on the project and list them as discussed in
the text. - Recommend a course of action for an engineer based on the creative middle ground approach. Explain why
this is the recommendation.
To think about: At the extremes, one engineer could focus on the cost of the project and keep the cost at its
lowest and not fully consider ADA compliance and the safety of those with disabilities. At the other extreme,
another engineer might not consider the cost of the project at all and design an extremely elaborate system in
which the only focus was the safety of people with disabilities. In this case study, you will determine the
outcome for an engineer using the creative middle ground approach
