Rushworth Kidder (see Power Point Presentation for this unit) proposed four paradigms for evaluating ethical dilemmas —1) Truth vs.Loyalty; 2) Justice vs.Mercy; 3) Short-term orientation vs.Long-term orientation; 4) Individual vs.Community. He differentiated moral dilemmas and ethical dilemmas. According to his model, moral dilemmas are those situations that are either right versus wrong, and ethical dilemmas are those situations that are right versus right. Describe a situation from your experience, either personal or professional, which required you to decide between right versus right. How did you arrive at your decision? What factors did you consider in making your decision? What was the outcome with the parties involved?
