Scene Analysis 1: Mise-en-scène
Select ONE of the six clips from either Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or The Grand Budapest Hotel included below and carefully respond to the three main questions listed at the end of this prompt. The aim of these questions is to help you craft a specific and detailed work of film analysis that is not simply about whether you “like” or “dislike” something. Instead we would like you to think about how your chosen scene works.
The below three questions must be answered in order (1-3) because they are designed so that the three answers build on one another, moving from precise description into elaborate interpretation.

SCENE ANALYSIS 1
- How is your chosen scene staged for the camera? Describe the way in which the actions and key elements of the scene are performed, blocked, and presented for the camera. Please focus on the elements of mise-en-scene, such as costumes, sets, lighting, performance (voice and action), props, blocking, etc., that you deem to be the most significant.
[Tip: With this response, start thinking cinematically. Try to put into words what the viewer actually sees in terms of setting, costume, lighting, etc.] - What is happening in your selected clip from a story point of view? In other words, what important narrative developments are communicated by your chosen scene from either Eternal Sunshine or Grand Budapest Hotel?
