Multi-skills are needed to write a thesis. They range from efficient reading to writing. In the process, you will need to search and organize your information effectively and also use specific skills such as formulating research questions. In preparing yourself for the task of thesis writing, you will need to immerse yourself into initial practice such as writing for targeted purposes.

The Task
In this assignment, you will present 4 sub-sections of writing practices which require you to exercise specific skills relevant to thesis writing. You have to:

  1. Present relevant information to form a solid context (with reference to four (4) readings) for the writing of chapter 1 of a thesis. Include other sub-sections – (a) background to your study, (b) justification of the study, (c) problem statement and (d) definition of terms to encapsulate the information.
  2. Synthesise your readings of four (4) articles that will help you to present similar or opposing arguments on an issue relevant to your research as literature review.
  3. State two research questions in relation to your research.
  4. Describe in detail the research approaches you can use to obtain data to answer the research questions stated in sub-section (3) above. In your description, include information on why you choose the methods and the limitations that accompany them.
