Seriousness of impact of a nutrition problem
Your task is to write a short, persuasive public health communication plan intended to persuade a particular group of people, an agency or the general public about the seriousness of impact of a nutrition problem (e.g. on the health and nutrition status of individuals, number of people affected, cost to the community, etc.) and to suggest practical ways to combat it.
Assignment Instructions: Your report should address the following:
1 Problem statement
Choose one challenge to population nutrition status (see Module 1) and justify your choice. Describe the problem by providing evidence from the literature that it is a serious problem. Describe the people affected by this challenge and the likely effects of the challenge on their health and nutrition status.
2 Select an audience and develop a Communication Plan
Briefly describe the likely audience for your communication, justify your choice, and explain how you will tailor your communication to their interests and capacities.
3 Propose an intervention
Identify an intervention and explain the strategy or strategies you propose to combat the problem (e.g. a communication campaign, an education program, changes to environmental settings, policy changes). Justify your choice. Describe the likely outcomes – what impact will your intervention/s have, and why? Draw on the literature and your reasoning in your explanations and rationale.
4 Critically evaluate your proposal
Identify the possible limitations of your proposed intervention, and address how you would mitigate them through the use of other nutrition approaches.
