Shakespeare's All’s Well That Ends Well and the Art of Love JAMES KUZNER

Step 1) Identify and define in your own words the central thesis and key arguments of the article. (Do not
simply quote long passages from the article; instead you are to synthesize and explain the article’s arguments
in your own words.) What do you see as the strengths and weaknesses of the author’s approach? Did the
article take a particular critical approach (Feminist, Psychoanalytic, etc.)? Was there a key argument that you
thought wasn’t well explained or lacked significant evidence? What are the most important take-aways from
this article for you, the student/reader?
Step 2) Once you have established the author’s thesis and main arguments, consider how this essay helps us
(as readers) to approach and think about Alls Well that Ends Well. Does your chosen article make you
reconsider your initial perspective on the play? How?
Step 3) At the of your Criticism Review paper, you should come up with one detailed, complex and interesting
question for the class that arises from your analysis and evaluation of your chosen article. You might, for
instance, select a short quotation from the article that raises a question or problem in your mind. Or suggest a
possible extension or modification of a specific argument made by the author, etc.. “What do you think?’ or “Do
you agree?” are not good questions. Craft an interesting, complex question for your classmates to sink their
critical teeth into.
Step 4) Provide a full citation for the peer-reviewed article in MLA (Modern Language Association) format; see
the Library’s page on Citation SourcesLinks to an external site. for information on correct format.
