This activity requires you to view the world using the perspective of the social construction of disability. Record observations that illustrate ways that disability is being socially constructed in society. For each observation, describe what you observed and then briefly explain how your observation illustrates the social construction of disability, linking your observations to Wendell’s explanations of how disability is socially constructed in society. Explain how each example illustrates structural or institutional factors that perpetuate oppression and discrimination. For each example, identify a strategy to empower individuals with disabilities and reduce the structural barriers they encounter.
