The follow
ing post has two assignments namely;
1.Social Work Child and Family Welfare Practice
Choose ONE TOPIC ONLY:
1) Critically evaluate the theoretical and empirical (both national and
international) literature on the assessment and support of foster carers. Discuss their implications for policy and practice.
2) Critically review the major developments
in policy, practice and research (cover all three areas thoroughly)
in the area of Adoption. Illustrate your answer with at least three research studies
(can be national or
international, better to have a mix of both with the third one be
ing either national or
international). Discuss their implications for child welfare practice
in t he new
millennium.
2.Conduct a review of the controversy surrounding “Einstein’s Wife
Order Description
In 2003 the Public Broadcast
ing Service
in the United States, generally known as PBS, aired “E
inste
in’s Wife,” a program about Albert E
inste
in’s first wife, Mileva Mari?. The program, largely the
work of Australian journalist Gerald
ine Hilton, essentially contended that Mari? was a “brilliant mathematician” whose role
in the celebrated Annus Mirabilis Papers of 1905 has not been properly
recognized. It was by no means the first time that speculation had been raised about whether Mileva Mari? had contributed to E
inste
in’s work. But this particular documentary, implicitly given the
stamp of approval by a highly respected educational broadcaster and supplied with its own web site, was widely broadcast and appeared to be very
influential at gett
ing across its po
int. For
example, over 70 per cent of those who responded to an onl
ine poll thought that Mileva Mari? had contributed to E
inste
in’s work. The program also angered a number of people and caused considerable
controversy. Retired British physicist Allen Esterson took particular exception to the some of the claims made
in “E
inste
in’s Wife,” as did Alberto A. Mart
inez, a research fellow at the Centre for
E
inste
in Studies. Esterson and Mart
inez contended that the program conta
ined a considerable number of
inaccuracies, dubious claims, and misconceptions, if not outright misrepresentations.
Eventually, the issue ended up with the PBS Ombudsman, Michael Getler, who reported on the matter
in December 2006. In his report, Getler made a number of suggestions for the PBS website.
Conduct a review of the controversy surround
ing “E
inste
in’s Wife” and to assess what that controversy reveals about the way
in which the history of science is done. Are Allen Esterson and Alberto
A. Mart
inez merely part of a narrow m
inded “old guard” or “old boys’ network” unwill
ing to consider new
interpretations
in an effort to defend their turf? Or were the writers and producers of
“E
inste
in’s Wife” will
ing to “bend” the evidence
in an effort to promote their own political agenda?
