For this assignment, access the most recent issue of one of the social work journals recommended on the
syllabus – Social Work, Social Work Research: Health and Social Work, Research on Social Work Practice,
Journal of Social Work Research and Evaluation, Social Service Review, Qualitative Social Work, or Journal of
Social Service Research. In the most recent issue of the journal you choose, locate one (1) empirical article on
a topic of interest to you. (If you cannot find an interesting enough article, go to a different journal!) Using the
criteria discussed in class, analyze the components of the article. Be sure to discuss:

1. The central research question(s);
2. The main argument and key findings;
3. The thoroughness and focus of the literature review;
4. The kind of data used to make the argument;
5. The type of method used to analyze the data;
6. How appropriate you think the data and method are for answering the question;
7. How believable and generalizable the findings are; and
8. Any additional criticisms about the article’s analytical strategy
