Staffing Analysis

You are going to analyze the staffing practices of your current or former employer. If you do not have a current/former employer, or do not want to base this assignment on your current/former employer, you can interview someone about their current/former employer’s staffing practices. If you do interview someone for this assignment only conduct an in-person interview if the person lives with you, otherwise you can interview someone via phone, email or other electronic means.

Company Overview

Start off your paper with the name of the company and an overview of it; what do they do, their mission and vision, where are they located, how many employees, etc… If you are uncomfortable with using the company’s name you can leave name out.

Staffing Analysis

The following are a list of questions you should answer about the company’s staffing practices or if you’re interviewing someone, these are the questions you should pose to them.

How does the organization recruit? Meaning what recruitment methods are used? i.e. word of mouth, ads, etc…
Does the organization use the same recruitment methods for all positions? (i.e. are all open positions posted on Indeed.com). If they use different methods for different positions how do they determine which methods to use for which positions?
What selection methods do they use? (Refer to the selection methods on the slides, i.e. applications, resume, interviews, etc…)
What are the typical steps in the selection process? (Do you screen applications first, do interviews next, etc…)
Does the organization use any type of employment testing as one of their selection methods? If so, what are the nature of the tests? What tests are used on what positions?
Does the organization use interviews as a selection method? If so, describe the interview process the organization uses?
How does the organization make the final decision about who is offered the job?
(If you don’t know the answer to a question, state that you don’t know and then provide your suggestion of what the organization should do. For example, if you don’t know how the organization should make a final decision about who to offer a job, then suggest a process, i.e. they should give greatest consider to candidates with the most relevant past work experience, etc…)

Critique

End your paper with a critique of the organization’s staffing process; meaning what do you think is good about their process and what you think needs improvement. Be sure to integrate recruitment and selection concepts from Power Point Presentation. For example, you may think the organization doesn’t uses valid selection methods.
