Statements of Understanding

A Statement of Understanding is one typed, full-length, single-spaced page wherein you demonstrate your
understanding/interpretation of one of the readings from the corresponding two-week cycle. In roughly 500
words, provide a brief rhetorical analysis of one of the corresponding two-week cycle’s readings. Much like
your discussion posts, try to avoid summary. Use critical thinking skills other than summary, such as analysis,
evaluation, and reflection. You may build upon your discussion post from earlier, but you don't have to. If you
do build upon your discussion post, try not to re-hash what’s already been discussed. Write something new,
relevant, and insightful. Take the time to polish your thoughts into well-written prose. Cite directly from the
passages you’ve chosen to analyze, and although outside research is not required, it’s certainly encouraged.
