Order Description
Your Task
1 Choose an organisation for which there is a large amount of in" rel="nofollow">information available about both the in" rel="nofollow">industry and the firm. Small private companies can be used but are
not usually a good idea. You may not choose companies which feature in" rel="nofollow">in the large case studies in" rel="nofollow">in the Johnson & Scholes and Grant textbooks, or companies used for in" rel="nofollow">in-
class teachin" rel="nofollow">ing. Please confirm your choice of company with your tutor before proceedin" rel="nofollow">ing. Collectin" rel="nofollow">ing in" rel="nofollow">information can be done in" rel="nofollow">in groups.
2 Group preparation - This task is your research and this part is not graded. However without the research you will not be able to successfully complete the in" rel="nofollow">individual
task. Based on the in" rel="nofollow">information collected, you will be asked to construct strategic tools that will lead to the analysis performed in" rel="nofollow">in your in" rel="nofollow">individual report.
3. The Individual Report. This is the only graded submission.
• Provide an analysis of the busin" rel="nofollow">iness environment of the firm. You should consider the main" rel="nofollow">in competitors and their competitive position; market details (value; share
etc.); current trends in" rel="nofollow">in the market; future trends in" rel="nofollow">in the market (attractiveness of the in" rel="nofollow">industry).
• Provide an in" rel="nofollow">internal analysis of the firm givin" rel="nofollow">ing details of its current strategic position and tactics. You should also consider the resources and capabilities of the
firm and how they impact upon the success or otherwise of the firm (distin" rel="nofollow">inctiveness of the firm).
• Identify and evaluate possible strategies at the corporate and at the busin" rel="nofollow">iness level based on the previous analysis.
• Recommend the route forward. Provide an explanation of the scenario chosen and critical analysis of the implications.
The submission will be in" rel="nofollow">in the form of a consultant’s report. Guidance on the structure of the report can be found below; it should be a professional, busin" rel="nofollow">iness-like
report. It should also use Harvard referencin" rel="nofollow">ing. Guidance will be provided in" rel="nofollow">in classroom sessions.
The assignment should be 4000 words in" rel="nofollow">in length, (+/- 10%) and is worth 100% of your grade. The word count does not in" rel="nofollow">include appendices, references, bibliography, or
other supportin" rel="nofollow">ing material. Include only those thin" rel="nofollow">ings which you would in" rel="nofollow">include in" rel="nofollow">in a professional busin" rel="nofollow">iness report or which are essential background for markers if you are
writin" rel="nofollow">ing about a less well-known busin" rel="nofollow">iness.
